FAQ

What does Lab42 do?

Lab42 is a global AI lab dedicated to technological progress for the benefit of humankind. We are working to develop AI that can think and learn like humans, in order to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, such as disease, hunger, and environmental disasters.

What is human-level artificial intelligence (HLAI)?

Contemporary neural networks are intelligent in the tasks they were trained for. HLAI differs in abstract reasoning abilities, which allow a machine to reason, learn and create theories in a broad and possibly unlimited range of subject domains.

Are we close to creating HLAI?

Deep neural networks worldwide are becoming more and more powerful and can learn several hundred different tasks. Nonetheless, the consensus of AI researchers is that we are still very far away from human-level machine intelligence.

Why do we need HLAI?

Lab42’s vision is to create an HLAI scientist that accelerates scientific breakthroughs in complex fields of science that experience a dramatic slowdown. Artificial scientists and a better understanding of intelligence could solve age-old problems of humankind, like dementia and fusion energy.

What is the ARCathon?

ARCathon, hosted from Davos, Switzerland, is a global artificial intelligence competition. This highly challenging event welcomes participants from around the world to tackle the ARC Challenge, considered unsolvable for the most advanced AI models currently available. For more information visit  https://lab42.global/arcathon

What is the Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus (ARC)?

ARC is like an IQ test for machine intelligence that measures an AI’s progress towards human-like abstraction and reasoning. ARC provides a benchmark for measuring skill acquisition on unfamiliar tasks. To find out more about ARC, visit https://lab42.global/arc.

From where does Lab42 operate?

Lab42’s office is in the Villa Fontana in Davos. The famous World Economic Forum’s yearly host has a long scientific collaboration and innovation history. In the upcoming years, Lab42 will expand into a global virtual reality lab.

How can I be a part of this collaboration?

Lab42 organizes numerous challenges you can be a part of from your home or in Davos. To see all the challenges, visit  https://lab42.global/challenges. If you want to become a part of the Lab42 AI enthusiast network, this page is the right place to start!
