Virtual Worlds
The development of intelligent life in our universe has taken billions of years. In order to achieve human-level AI, Lab42 explores creating virtual worlds where AI can evolve much faster. Hereby, we shall not try to replicate the real world, but to create modifiable virtual environments and pose the question:
Which properties and structures must a virtual world have to enable the successful creation of human-level artificial intelligence?
Outline and Requirements
Please make sure to carefully read the competition requirements on page 2 of the Challenge Outline before submitting your essay. Essays may be submitted in English or German, and all citations and sources must be properly indicated.
That's in it for you
We challenge you to write an essay of 2'000 to 3'000 words. Whether you answer the question from a biological, computational, mathematical, neuroscientific, philosophical, psychological, social, or any other perspective is up to you.

All essays are judged on their novelty, clarity, argumentative strength, and usefulness in the field of AI. Deadline for entries is March 31, 2023 at 23:59 GMT. Winners will be notified no later than April 30, 2023.
